MINIMALIST 2 BATHROOM IN CHELSEA

Both Minimalist 2 bathrooms in Chelsea are finally finished. We had couple of posts covering the construction: TWO MINIMALIST BATHROOMS IN CHELSEA and PROGRESS IN CHELSEA. And now you can see the final results. Here is the first bathroom.  It is smaller than a typical New York 5×7 bathroom so it took quite a bit of tweaking. Instead of a cramped bathtub we have a spacious shower. Large mirrored medicine cabinet provides plenty of storage. Over scaled mirrors give an impression of a larger space. Photos of the second bathroom – same design, different layout – coming soon.

BATHROOMS BY THOMAS BENDEL

Thomas Bendel is a Berlin, Germany based architect whose projects I very much admire.  His approach to bathroom design is very interesting and bold.  He uses monolithic surfaces, cast stone and black stained wood veneer.  The bathrooms are very spare, clean and airy, but they do not feel sterile due to the use of wood and the warm color of stone. If you look at Thomas Bendel’s projects you will find that he approaches bathroom design in a similar manner as the design of other rooms, carefully arranging bold shapes and surfaces in otherwise empty spaces.
